the found now is a found poem project for 2017 and 2018.
the poems here are based on black and white photos I took during 2016.
for the first 149 days of 2017, I uploaded the corresponding day’s photo from 2016 to Ross Goodwin’s word.camera, which uses algorithms to generate text based on the content of the image. I began with the resulting text, then erased everything but the poem.
in late May 2017, Ross took word.camera offline for several months to redesign it. I restarted the project on May 30, 2018 (where I left off in 2017), and then again on September 10, 2018 (more technical difficulties). the tool’s new functionality doesn’t allow for the same sort of erasure poems. instead, I point my camera at the day’s photo on my screen, take a screen capture of the resulting text, then use selections from the generated text to write the poem.
at some point, I’ll need to return to the gap between July 21 and September 10 to complete the series. it’s quite possible this means the project will continue into 2019.
maybe it will never end.
