Now playing on my mental jukebox

I woke up this morning with one of Mom’s favorite songs in my head, so the goats got to hear me humming Arlo Guthrie’s “City of New Orleans” as I milked. I would have sung it to them (as I sung them “Over the Rainbow” yesterday morning), but I don’t know all the words.

And singing that one brought to mind one of Mom’s all-time favorite songs: Roy Clark’s “Yesterday When I was Young”.

When I was young, I didn’t understand why, when that song came on the stereo, she’d go very quiet and get that far-away look in her eyes. Now I’m afraid I do. Excuse the awkward video.

And, finally, there’s no way I could spend a day thinking about Mom without having a few Neil Diamond songs in my head. No other performer made her smile the way Neil Diamond did (okay, maybe a few modern country singers in more recent years, but I prefer to ignore that facet of her musical taste).

This one’s for you, Mom. I’m gonna crank it up really loud. ❤
