Letting things wash over me

It’s too late for me to post anything real (to tell the truth, I forgot all about posting until now, and now all I really want to do is go to bed, but I started this thing, darn it, and I’m going to see it through).

So, rather than write, I’ll just post a video that shows a portion of Benjamin Bagby’s Beowulf performance. We attended a performance of this last night at Dartmouth’s Rollins Chapel (a perfect setting, with its high ceilings and wooden beams and spooky lighting). Bagby recited (and sang) the story in Old English, while translated surtitles were projected overhead. He was animated and interesting to watch, but sometimes the best way to listen was to just close our eyes and let the language wash over us.
